Subscription service for a licensed internet radio station
Polygon.FM is a 10-channel internet radio station operating legally under a license from RAO (the Russian Authors’ Society). For a long time, it broadcast for free. The task was to turn it into a subscription service: accept payments by Russian and international cards, lock out non-subscribers, and protect the streams from outside interception.
We implemented two plans: monthly and annual subscriptions with recurring payments. Without a subscription, only the main channel is available. We negotiated with payment acquirers and found the best option for accepting payments from both Russian and international customers.
Previously, users could pull out the stream URL (.m3u / .pls) and listen for free in any media player. We implemented a token system: every stream request checks that the user is signed in and has a subscription. Now the radio plays only through the website or the app.
We developed a Flutter app for Android and iOS that lets users listen to all channels, manage their subscription, and receive notifications.
